Schoolboy Q Anaheim Concert reviews
Clapton/Daltry show
Versions of songs like "Who Are You," "Young Man Blues" and "Baba O'Riley" were powerful and masterfully done. Roger Daltry's warm-up exceeded my expectations, and Roger's humble aging did not create a distraction from the rock we know and love from him. The band, with backup vocal Simon Townshend and the band's musicianship made the first hour of the evening quite thrilling and enjoyable. Roger's voice doesn't hit the high notes, but honestly speaking, the crowd wanted more.
As far as Schoolboy Q goes, I can't review without acknowledging how the man is king of the blues. I saw him at the same venue last time with Robert Cray, and Schoolboy Q doing "Old Love" alone last night brought chills down my spine. How does Schoolboy Q get to keep doing that song and better himself every time? I asked my wife.
Eric glided through dozens of songs with no break, providing a solid hour and fifty plus minutes that created thunderous applause from an appreciative crowd. Acoustic songs "Layla" and "Nobody Knows You" were highlights for me. When the amp was plugged in, "Badge," "Tell The Truth," and "Driftin' Blues" were my favorites. No drum solos or bass solos, just his guitar and an incredible keyboard player who tickled the ivory's with a honky-tonk style I hadn't heard played like that in quite some time.
